Charter School Directors play a key role in ensuring their School LAND Trust funds are used in accordance with program code and rule to enhance classroom instruction to support student achievement. They may assist in the proper use of these funds by collaborating with their school's Charter Trust Land Council (CTLC). This collaboration involves identifying specific student academic needs and strategically allocating SLT resources to address those needs.”
  • Assist the council in developing the School LAND Trust Plan to improve student achievement.
  • Supply the Charter Trust Land Council with relevant data and information to facilitate the identification of academic needs and resource requirements.
  • Ensure the LAND Trust Plan aligns with all program requirements and guidelines.
  • Oversee the effective and compliant use of LAND Trust funds.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of School LAND Trust funded initiatives on student outcomes.

*** a requirement that DOES NOT apply to Charter Governing Boards acting as their Charter Council

Fall

  • Hold elections if LEA requires fall elections.
  • ***Work with the Charter Trust Land Council to review and update council Rules of Order & Procedure.
    • Election procedures within the Rules of Order and Procedure will go into effect for the next election.

October 1st

  • Request the final School LAND Trust funding allocation for the school from the Charter Business Administrator.  If adjustments are needed for the SLT plan, have the council submit an amendment.

October 20th

Beg of January

  • The USBE School Children's Trust (SCT) team will send LEAs projected distribution allocations for the upcoming school year, which will then be uploaded to the SLT Reporting Website. LEAs have until October 1 to reallocate these funds.

January 15

  • Final Reports and Upcoming School LAND Trust Plans are available on the School LAND Trust reporting website.  The Plans include the school funding amount for the coming school year.  Note that amounts may change due to changes in student enrollment until October 1.

Prior to March 1st (Due date set by Charter Business Administrator)

March 1st

  • The Final Report or summary of the report must be shared with the Charter Governing Board and parents of the school. 

Prior to May 1st (Due date set by Charter Business Administrator)

  • Charter LEA Assurance Completed
  • The following items are due to the Charter Governing Board for review:
    • School LAND Trust Upcoming Plan 
    • ***Council Signature Page 

May 1st  

  • Charter Business Administrator must approve School LAND Trust Plan for USBE review in order to receive School LAND Trust funding in July. 

Spring

  • Optional: Use the Final Report Template to prepare for next year's submission. This practice helps capture information while it's current and facilitates smooth transitions during administrative changes.
  • Hold elections if the election procedures direct spring elections.
