The College and Career Awareness course is to be taught by a team of teachers with the appropriate license and endorsements. The team most often is comprised of a Business and Marketing Education teacher, Family and Consumer Sciences Education teacher, and Technology and Engineering Education teacher. (These are Career and Technical Education classroom teachers). Each teacher is required to have the appropriate license and endorsements. This is a full year, 180 days course. College and Career Awareness also requires support and classroom interaction with a school counselor and, where available, a Work-Based Learning coordinator.
Note: Because College and Career Awareness is a core curriculum requirement, a teacher must have an Elementary Education, Middle School or Secondary Education License with the appropriate endorsement. A CTE License will not meet this requirement.
The following CTE endorsements qualify Secondary Education License teachers to be on the College and Career Awareness teacher team:
A teacher with one of the above endorsements is then qualified to teach all or part of the course. It is recommended that collectively the College and Career Awareness team teachers have at least three of these endorsements.
Three middle/junior high school endorsements (listed below) are available to assist teachers in becoming qualified to teach CTE courses in grades 6-8 when a CTE-endorsed teacher is not available. These endorsements can only be given to teachers with an Elementary Education, Middle School or Secondary Education License.
