College and Career Awareness is a core requirement for seventh grade students. Through College and Career Awareness, students participate in activity-centered lessons to utilize technology, develop foundational skills, and explore careers by expanding awareness. College and Career Awareness provides information regarding future classes and training related to each student’s career field of interest.
Technological advances and global competition have changed the nature of work. Jobs today require increased levels of knowledge and advanced technical skills. Learning is a lifelong process, and students need to be prepared with 21st Century Skills for the future. College and Career Awareness enhances students’ appreciation for the knowledge and skills they will need for ongoing success in college, careers, and life.
Technology is expected to continue to have an effect on items we use every day. Therefore, it is critical to be able to adjust to the evolving technical world.

College and Career Awareness offers exploration and preparation in college and Career Pathways focusing on jobs that are high skill and high demand, as well as satisfying and financially rewarding. The College and Career Awareness course is designed to help students identify their interests, abilities, and skills. With appropriate developmental information related to careers, educational Pathways, and self-knowledge, students are able to begin to make college and career goals for the future. College and Career Awareness is designed to acquaint students with the Utah labor market and the employment opportunities for which they can prepare by defining a College and Career Ready Plan.
College and Career Awareness is a core requirement for middle/junior high school seventh grade students. Over 42,000 seventh graders currently participate in College and Career Awareness as part of their middle/junior high school experience.
College and Career Awareness is taught in approximately 170 middle/junior high schools throughout the state of Utah.
College and Career Awareness broadens a student's scope of learning and assists him or her in developing intellectual, social, technical, and academic skills that will be beneficial throughout his or her life. This course helps students identify Career Pathways to help guide their course choices in middle/junior high and high school. Students investigate post high school training choices and options.
The Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) describe the skills and attitudes students should explore and learn as a result of successful participation in the College and Career Awareness course. ILOs are an essential part of the CTE Core and provide teachers with a standard for evaluation of student learning. Significant understanding occurs when teachers incorporate ILOs in planned instruction for the College and Career Awareness course.

College and Career Awareness is designed to help a student learn more about himself or herself and more about the world of work. Through College and Career Awareness, a student will have many opportunities to get his or her hands on real work tasks, assessing personal characteristics and learning how his or her characteristics support occupational choices. A student will explore occupations grouped by career fields. These career fields include concepts in agriculture, business and marketing, family and consumer sciences, health science, information technology, and technology and engineering education curricula.

Formerly called TLC, College and Care Awareness began in 1987 in all middle/junior high schools throughout the state of Utah, where it has been very successful.
