Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP)
Overview
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides grant money to sponsors for nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables offered to students in selected low-income elementary schools participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). It offers a healthy snack for children outside the normal lunch period.
Schools must apply for this competitive grant and expenses will only be reimbursed up to the school's total award amount. The grant has been successful in introducing school children to a variety of produce that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to sample.

Qualifying and Applying
Sponsors of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) may apply annually for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). The application review process gives priority to schools representing the highest percent of students certified for free and reduced-price benefits program.
To be selected a school must:
- be an elementary school
- complete the annual application in March
- participate in the NSLP
- represent the highest percentage of students certified for free and reduced price benefits

Reimbursement Rates
Reimbursement for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is similar to other Child Nutrition Programs (CNPs). Awarded schools submit a monthly claim and supporting documentation verifying purchases of fresh fruits and vegetables served at no cost to students during the school day.
Claims for reimbursement and supporting documentation for this program are due to the Utah State Board of Education no later than the fourth working day of each month.
