Screening, Training, and Supporting School Staff

Screening, Training, and Supporting School Staff

Overview

Screening, training, and supporting school staff are foundational elements in creating safe and healthy schools. State rule requires the screening of employees and volunteers that work with students. Following screening practices creates conditions to support the hiring of mentally and emotionally healthy adults who will increase positive relationships between students and other staff. Training for school staff is essential in maintaining healthy learning environments. Training may include more than academic and pedagogical supports. It may also be information and skills to support the emotional, mental, social, and physical wellness of the staff member.
