Recommended Instructional Materials System (RIMS)
Schools need to purchase basal/core or recommended primary materials that have gone through an independent alignment to the Utah Core. Schools may still purchase materials not listed on the state RIMs list as long as they have been reviewed and approved by their local school board.

Classroom and Laboratory Management: Nutrition and Food Science

This guide has been developed and field tested in junior and high school classrooms. The intent was that it be utilized as needed by individual teachers, in part or as a whole, to supplement nutrition and foods science curriculum. Included in this guide are units on mathematics and kitchen design. Concepts related to both are basic to management in the foods laboratory.

Is the ultimate consumer challenge, is an educational opportunity that develops the consumer and marketplace knowledge and skills of teenagers in a fun way and rewards them for this knowledge. The program complements the curriculum already in place in high schools and can be used as an activity for classes, groups, clubs, and community organizations. LifeSmarts, run as a game-show style competition, is open to all teens in the United States in high school and now, thanks to the Junior Varsity program, middle school students may compete as well.

National Association of State Administrators of Family and Consumer Sciences (NASAFACS)
An affiliate of the Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FACS) Division of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), first began development of national standards for family and consumer sciences in May 1995. The project to develop national standards created an atmosphere that celebrated the variety that exists among state philosophies and blended multiple approaches to standards and educational delivery systems. The resulting work became a powerful tool for showcasing the movement from home economics, with an emphasis on technical homemaking skills, to Family and Consumer Sciences Education, with its focus on broader family and society issues, and provided significant new direction for the field. For the last decade, the National Standards for Family and Consumer Sciences Education (NASAFACS, V-TECS 1998) has provided a strong and clear conceptualization and a common direction for Family and Consumer Sciences Education at the national, state, and local levels.

Is a two-year, nationwide program that develops the best and brightest talent into tomorrow’s restaurant and foodservice leaders. ProStart serves 95,000 students at over 1,900 high schools in 48 states, Guam and United States military bases. A life changing experience for the students, educators and mentors that make up the program, ProStart trains students academically in the classroom and experientially on the job.
