U-PASS SCHOOL REPORT

TECHNICAL NOTES & DATA DEFINITIONS - Draft

Number of Classes and Average Class Size -  These data elements are reported slightly different than in other reports.  Classes at the elementary level are reported by grade (e.g., Grade 3).  Classes at the secondary level include Reading/Language Arts, Science and Mathematics only.   Other class size reports may include, other courses such as Art and Physical Education.  Data may not reflect classes at some small school where one teacher is teaching multiple grades at the same time.  Unfortunately at this time, this cross grade instruction cannot be reflected in this report.

Staff Qualifications -  Staff is not limited to only teachers.  Administrators and other qualified staff are included in these statistics.

Dropouts - According to State Board of Education rules (R277-419, R277-484) and the State of Utah Legal Compliance Audit Guide (APP C-5), audited dropout counts for the prior school year will not be available until the beginning of November. Dropout counts and rates will be added to this report when all elements of the report are finalized after the AYP appeals period concludes.

SEOP Participation - Information on parental participation in Student Education (Occupation) Planning (SEP/SEOP) and other formal conferences with teachers, please contact the school and request a copy of the school's annual report of its activities in this area as required by Utah Code 53A-1a-106(2)(b)."

Free/Reduced Price Lunch  - This is reported as percent of students who qualify to receive free or reduced price lunch.  This percentage includes all students who attended the school at any point during the school year.  The USOE child nutrition survey collects data at one point during the school year.  Therefore, results between the two will slightly vary.

ACT Results – ACT, in their national release date, provides districts and schools with their percent participating in the test.  However, this percentage involves the use of self-report and survey data.  By working with districts, USOE has actual student data, including graduation data.   Therefore, the percent of students taking the ACT will differ between these two reports.

Advanced Placement (AP) Results – The College Board who releases the AP results also uses self-report and survey data as part of the calculation of, percentage of students taking an AP test.  In contrast, the USOE has actual student data including graduation data.   Therefore, the percent of students taking AP exams will differ between these two reports.

Concurrent Enrollment Data – For the 2002-03 school year the number of students who earn college credit is reported.  In future years, the U-PASS report will also include the total number of students enrolled in concurrent enrollment courses and the percent of students who earned college credit.

Stanford Achievement Test – Exp. Range is an abbreviation of expected range.   Expected range is a comparison of how other schools with a similar percent of students who received free/reduced price lunch ranked.   School with a rank to the middle or upper range is performing higher than similar schools.

CORE CRT Results -  For this U-PASS report, the number and percent of student who reach “Proficient”, either Level 3 or Level 4, is reported.  Core CRT results by proficiency is on all students who were enrolled at the school at the time of spring testing.  Students did not need to be in school for the full academic year.  This differs from the federal No Child Left Behind reporting requirement.  Please refer to your schools federal AYP report to learn more.  To learn  more about NCLB and AYP visit, http://www.usoe.k12.ut.us/curr/nclb/default.htm our state NCLB website.
