SIS 2000+ Student Schedule Editor
Sec. 1, Introduction / Find
a Student
The
Student Schedule Editor program is used to schedule students, one student
at a time, either by using a student's course requests or by simply scheduling
available course sections into empty time slots. This application may be
used in conjunction with the Master Schedule Editor, or as a stand-alone
program. The course requests for a particular student may be displayed,
scheduled (either manually or semi-automatically), unscheduled, added to,
or deleted from - all using the Student Schedule Editor program. This program
is used to edit individual schedules in order to resolve conflicts and
unresolved requests after the Master Schedule has been loaded with students
via the Student Loader. This capability is useful for scheduling students
who enter school in the middle of the school year (walk-ins) or for making
minor changes to the Master Schedule without having to rerun the Student
Loader.
Furthermore, if a student needs to be scheduled during the middle of
a term (a new student, for example) the Walk-in Scheduler feature will
act as the Student Loader does, except that it schedules one student at
a time instead of many. Like the Loader, the Walk-In Scheduler will search
the Master Schedule and try to satisfy the walk-in student's course requests
with the least amount of conflicts. The Walk-In Scheduler is actually an
extension of the Loader that is accessed from the Student Schedule Editor.
1.1 Open Student Schedule Editor
From the SIS 2000+ Main Menu, select the Schedule button to open the
Schedule Menu. From the Schedule Menu select the Student Schedule button.
(Allow a few moments for the Editor to initialize and load schedules.)

(See document titled "Student Banner"
for more information on command buttons.)
There are two modes for viewing the grid: by cycle or by term. The following samples are in the default View by Cycle mode (See Step 2.1 for illustration of View by Term). When viewing by cycle, each column in the grid represents a cycle day as defined for the track (Fig. 4, 5). The cell where a period and cycle day intersect represents a course segment (meeting time).

Concurrent segments are possible, as in cases where two or more courses are being taught at the same time in the same classroom. ID numbers for concurrent segments will be displayed in extra lines below the initial period line. Concurrent segment lines will be blank in the Per(iod) field, indicating that they are subsets of the same period (Fig. 5a).

In a similar manner, information about a course request, unscheduled
(Fig. 7), scheduled (Fig. 8), or 'has been scheduled' can be displayed
by selecting the course request description in the Course Requests list
and then viewing its attributes in the information field above.

To activate a particular group, click on one of five Student Group Selection Buttons in the Student Banner in the upper right of the screen. Selecting the appropriate Group will facilitate a more organized and efficient user interaction with the program and will narrow the search time when finding a student record.
Student records will be available by groups only for the school site
that is currently logged on. Student Group Selection buttons are only available
in the read-only mode of the host program. They are deactivated when in
the edit mode of the program.
"Currently
Active Students for this Schedule Year"
selects only those students who currently have a Student
Status of "Active" in the selected
Schedule Year. This is the default group selected whenever the host program
is first opened.
"All Students
(active and inactive) for this Schedule Year"
selects active and inactive students of the selected Schedule Year.
"Future
Students for this Schedule Year"
selects only those students who have a Student Status of "Future" for
the selected Schedule Year.
"Inactive
(withdrawn) students for this Schedule Year"
selects only those students with a Student Status of "Inactive"
in the selected Schedule Year.
See Student Banner, 'Navigational Command Buttons' for more information on the three search methods outlined above.
| Important:
When executing a search for a student using the VCR buttons, List command, or Find command, only the records from the currently selected Group will be available for the search. If the record is not found, widen the search criteria by selecting a larger, more inclusive group. |
