Sec. 6, Post Marks

Gradebook is a teacher's tool for calculating the final mark for each student in a class. These marks must ultimately be transferred or copied to the Mark Reporting tables so that they can be printed on Report Cards, used for Honor Roll calculations, posted to transcripts, etc.

Although marks can be manually keyed or scanned into the Mark Reporting tables, the Post Marks procedure in Gradebook will automatically copy marks from a teacher's grade book to the Mark Reporting tables on a per class per subject basis. This is normally done at the end of a mark reporting period, though it is possible to post marks at any time in the school year.

The posted marks can then be viewed or edited in the Class Marks Editor or the Student Marks Editor applications in the Mark Reporting program module. See Mark Reporting for more details.

6.1 Set up
The Post Marks feature is enabled or disabled only by a user with System Administrator status. This is done in the Set Mark Term procedure as follows:

6.1.1 Open 'Set' form
In the Gradebook Main Form, select "Set Mark Term" from the File menu (Fig. 62).
6.2 Initiate
Select "Post Marks" from the File menu (Fig. 64). "Post Marks" will appear in the File pull-down menu only after a Gradebook administrator has activated the Post to Marks functionality by using the 'Set Term' feature (which can also be used to turn off 'Post Marks' option)

6.3 Select Term, Class, Subject, and Mark Type
In the 'Post Computed Final GradeBook Marks to Mark Reporting' dialog that appears (Fig. 65), select parameters for the grades to be posted.

Numerous validations occur to verify that the current course can be posted to the current term (as defined by the MarkDef field in the Master Schedule), that a valid Mark Set has been selected in Gradebook Setup for the marking term, and a grading scale has been established. If these tests are passed successfully, the list of available, valid mark types becomes active. This permits the teacher to post specific Gradebook subjects to an appropriate Mark Reporting mark type; for example, the final grades computed for a subject named 'Citizenship' could be posted as 'Conduct' marks. After a mark type is selected, the Post button becomes active, and the final grades are written to Marks Reporting. If corrections are necessary, the posting operation may be rerun as necessary.

6.4 Execute
Click on the Post command button to execute, or Quit to cancel. After posting is finished a confirmation message will display the amount of records written or updated.
