Sec. 2c, Cafeteria Policies / Enable and Define Restrictions & Alerts

 Synopsis -

  1. Enable a Restriction or Alert to make it available for use.
  2. Once enabled, optionally set a district-wide value.  This is a default value (proposed value).  How the Cafeteria module reacts when it encounters an account that meets this value is controlled by Cafeteria module Preferences.  Alerts do not use values.
  3. Or, choose 'No District Value'.  This makes the Restriction or Alert available (for custom settings, Accounts module) without global consumer defaults.
  4. Select an audio file to use with an alert or restriction (optional).  Adjust the volume.
  5. Modify the Message text (optional) displayed for an alert or restriction.

2c.4 Re-Cap & Scenarios
Enable only those restrictions that realistically apply to your situation.  Many of the restrictions overlap because the intent is to offer fine-tuning capabilities.
  1. Alerts apply to individuals and do not function globally.  Enabled Alerts are assigned to a specific individual (Accounts, Settings).  All Alerts may be enabled in anticipation of need, but without global consequences.
  2. Restrictions may or may not have district-wide default values.  If a district value is present, it is assigned to all consumers.  If a district value is not present, the restriction will function only when it has been assigned to an individual (Accounts, Settings), in the same manner as an Alert.
  3. Example - The school allows Meal and ala Carte charging.  A parent notifies the school that their student may not charge ala Carte, and will not be responsible if ala Carte charging occurs.  Enable the Restriction 'Minimum Balance for ala Carte' with 'No district value'. Then locate that student in Accounts, Settings, and add the Restriction with a value of '0.00'.
