SIS 2000+ Food Services
Sec.
15, POS Designer / Introduction
The
POS Designer constructs the appearance of the POS screen
as used in the Cafeteria module. The POS Designer also contains the Cash
Drawer Editor.
The POS screen as seen in the Cafeteria module may contain up to four pages, with a maximum of eighteen buttons per each page. Any combination of food types may be used on a page.
POS Configurations may be copied and assigned to a different site.
The Cash Drawer Editor -
Creates the Cash Drawers used by each school. A minimum of one Drawer
is required for each school using Food Services - two drawers are recommended
(Cafeteria and Office). The Cash Drawer that is selected when the user
logs into the Cafeteria module identifies the food line used to record
service and payments.
In the example above, the school only needs to create one POS configuration
to process four food lines (because all food lines offer identical menus).
However, a Cash Drawer must be created for each food line, a total
of four Cash Drawers in all. The Cash Drawer description is user-defined
-- and may be the food line (ala Carte Line, or Salad Bar Line), the name
of the person operating the line, or may be numbered (Line 1, Line 2, etc.).
You may also wish to create a Drawer for the School Office, and any other
locations that process transactions. Remember that the description used
for the Drawer will appear in reports when meal, ala Carte service and
payments are reported by Drawer.

15.2 About the POS Designer screen
The POS Designer screen sets the School, Meal and Description
for this POS display layout. The display template pages are used for button
placement and appearance. Button Properties display the food Item and button
Captions for the selected button. The Page Captions are text fields for
user-defined page tab headings. Command buttons are located at the bottom
of the screen.
School
The School to which this POS layout is assigned. Click on the drop
down list box to change school selection. If district-wide school selection
is not an option, School defaults read-only to the local site.
Description
The user-defined description of this POS layout. It may be simply Lunch,
Lunch ala Carte, or may be more specific. This description appears during
Cafeteria login, and identifies which POS configuration is being used for
the food line. Tab to or click within the text field, then type the description.
Meal
Designates the Meal for which this POS configuration will be used.
Transactions completed using this configuration are then designated as
'Lunch' or 'Breakfast'. Click on the Meal field to open, and select either
Lunch or Breakfast.
15.2.2 Page Captions -
User-defined text fields for page tabs. Tab to or click on the first
Page Captions field, complete the text and press Enter. The text will appear
on the template page tab for evaluation when the focus is shifted to another
caption field. Caption length is limited to 16 characters.
15.2.3 Configuration pages -
The POS Designer contains four pages per display layout. A page may
contain from one to eighteen buttons. If a page in the Designer is unused
(does not contain at least one button), it will not appear in the
Cafeteria screen. Also, page width in the Cafeteria screen adjusts
to the width needed for the number of buttons across. For example, a page
is designed with three buttons placed vertically. When that page is viewed
in the Cafeteria screen, the page will adjust to one button in width. But,
if there is a second page in the layout that has two buttons across, both
pages will conform to the two button width when viewed in the Cafeteria
screen.
15.2.4 Button Definition -
Displays definitions for and editing access to the currently selected
button. Button selection defaults to the first button, which is the top
left position on page one of the display layout. Select a different button
by single-clicking on the button. Button Definition text fields are read-only.
To edit definitions, select a food item button and click on the Edit
button. See Sec. 15c, Edit a POS Design.
Item -
The Food Item referenced by this button (see Sec.
5, Food Items).
Caption line 1 / Caption line 2 -
Each button accommodates two lines of user-defined text. Button text
is for user convenience only and is not included in reports. Reports reference
the Item name as defined in SIS 2000+ Items.
The finished button layout as viewed in the Designer controls the appearance of the buttons in the Cafeteria screen when that POS Site layout is selected during Cafeteria login.
