Sec. 8, Eligibility / Direct Certification, Introduction

Directly Certified students may be processed by using one of two methods:

The Eligibility Applications Module

A Direct Cert Program designation may be used for students directly certified by an authorized agency as Categorically Approved to receive free school meals through participation in a qualifying program. Required application data is limited to:

    Application ID #
Application Date, Effective Date and Expire Date
    Household Students
Program = Direct Cert for each student
    Applicant

All other Application data requirements are disabled (but remain optional).

This method is appropriate when certification data is received in a format other than electronic. Keep in mind, that if you choose to use an application to process Direct Certification, you must provide an applicant - applications require applicants.  If you wish to process direct certification without benefit of an application, use the Direct Cert module.

The Eligibility Direct Certification Module

The Direct Cert module imports student eligibility data received in electronic format.

Data Format Requirements -

  1. Direct Certification import is from  text file format only
  2. If data is received on a tape, the data must be converted to text file format
User specified comparison criteria such as social security number, last name, first name, birth date, gender etc. confirm matches between students present in the import file and students present in SIS 2000+. Failed matches are marked with visual cues for user evaluation, correction and re-import. Successful matches create an Account Status record 'Free' (Accounts module) for each student, effective as of the date of import, and designated as 'Direct Cert'.
