7g, Application Calculations
The Application is ready to be calculated when application information, household students, applicant and household member information is present. Remember, if all students on the application are Categorically Approved (Program = Food Stamps, AFDC, or FDPIR), household member information is not required. If one or more students are Income eligible (Program = Income elig) household member information must be present.

Calculation
7g.1 Calculate the application
Click on the Calculate button when
application data is complete. Calculate compares household size
and income with federal income guidelines to establish free/reduced eligibility
status. An application may be re-calculated as often as necessary. The
Calculate button enabled in red
means that changes have been made to this application which could affect
it's status - Calculate must be performed. The Undo button
is enabled and all other command buttons are disabled.

Calculation
Application Calculation text fields -
Pay Period -
The method used to calculate household Income. If assorted pay periods
have been used to report household income, the Pay Period defaults to Monthly.
If household income is reported under one type of pay period, then household
income is calculated and reported using that pay period.
HH Size -
Equals Household Students plus Household Members. The Applicant is
not included unless added as a household member.
Income Eligible -
The actual eligibility status of the application based upon the results
of calculating income, household size and income tables.
Approval -
The approval status of the application:
Pay type -
The actual pay type assigned to students as calculated by comparing
household income, household size, income guidelines, and whether or not
application information requirements have been met. Pay type may free,
reduced or regular/paid. Incomplete and Denied applications assign Paid
student pay-types.
You may override the Application Approval. For example, a household may be Income Eligible to receive free meals, but the application is Denied-Incomplete due to a missing signature. The Denied status may be changed to Approved-Temporary, which will change student Pay types from Regular to Free. Select 'Yes' from the prompt to change the application expiration date to reflect the Temporary Approved status (Fig. 3).

7g.2 Split Applications
It is possible for a household to have students who are Income Eligible
and students who are Categorically Approved. For example, an application
contains students from a shared household. Total Household Income and Size
qualifies the household as income-eligible to receive meals at a
reduced price. However, one of the students is Categorically Approved
to receive free meals through AFDC benefits. This student is identified
as Categorically Approved by changing the Program from <Income
elig> to AFDC and supplying a Program Number. When the application
is calculated, all students designated as Program = Income elig
are assigned the Application Income Eligible Pay type. All students
with Programs = AFDC, Food Stamps, or FDPIR are assigned Pay types of Free.
The Application Pay type is Split.
