Sec. 4d, Rates / Sales Tax Assign

Food types and consumer types may be flagged as taxable for sales tax purposes. For example, your state considers sales of food items to adults as taxable, and sales of food items to children as non-taxable (see Fig. 2). Identifying a consumer type as taxable includes those sales when the Sales Tax Payable Report is printed. Taxable status does not affect the consumer's records in any way and is for sales tax reporting purposes only.

Sales Tax computation assumes that the meal rates and/or ala Carte prices are tax included -- meal or item price + tax = price present in Rates or Items.

4d.1 Run Sales tax assign
The Sales tax assign editor is located in SIS 2000+ Food Service Rates, File menu. From within Rates, click on File and select Sales tax assign (Fig. 1).

4d.2 Identify taxable consumers
The Identify taxable consumers screen (Fig. 2) displays in edit mode with the focus defaulting to the Student Meals tax checkbox. Sales of Meal and/or ala Carte items to Students, Faculty, Adult (Visiting) and Child (Visiting) may be checked as taxable. Press the Tab key to move horizontally through the tax checkboxes. Use the up/down arrow keys to move vertically through the checkboxes. Click on a check box to select, or you may press the spacebar to insert a check mark. Click on the Save button to record changes. Click on the Done button when finished to return to the Rates screen.
