General Rapid Entry Techniques
The Data Entry interface is optimized for ten-key entry. Mouse and Tab
key requirements are minimal.
-
General procedure
After typing data in a field and pressing ENTER, the data remains in the field and the focus is automatically
shifted forward to the next field or command button. After completing the
last field in an attendance record and pressing ENTER, the focus will move
to the Save command button. Press ENTER again to save the current
record and start a new record. The default focus for a new record will
start at the Student Identifier field at the top.
-
Random access
Data fields can also be accessed randomly by cycling the focus forward
using the TAB key (or SHIFT+TAB to reverse direction), by using the UP
and DOWN arrow keys on the keyboard, or by using the mouse to click directly
on the field.
-
List fields
Data in the Period and Code fields is selected from predefined
selections in drop-down lists ("list" fields are indicated by the presence
of a field button). When the
focus is on a list field, simply press the DOWN and UP arrow keys on the
keyboard to scroll quickly through the list of available choices. Press
ENTER when the desired choice is displayed in the field. The data will
be entered and the focus will automatically shift forward to the next field
or command button. Data in a list field can also be entered by clicking
on the field button to activate a drop-down list. Select a choice from
the list using the mouse (or arrow keys) and press ENTER to move on to
the next field.
-
Command buttons -
Command buttons can be executed in three ways: 1) Move the focus to
the button using the TAB key, ENTER key, or arrow keys, and then press
ENTER. 2) Press the ALT key plus the underlined hot key letter indicated
on the button, such as "ALT+R" for the Review command
button. 3) Click on the button directly with the mouse.
-
Clear command
Use the Clear command button (ALT+C) to delete
all student identification data in the upper half of the screen and start
again from a blank record.
-
Cancel command
Use Cancel command button (ALT+C) to clear all
attendance data in the lower screen and all student identification
data in the upper screen and start again from a blank record. This button
is activated only if there has been attendance data entered in the lower
screen.
-
Student Picture button
The Student Picture command button can only be activated by
a mouse click.
