Legal Assistance. Financial aid is available to administrators which will provide legal assistance to all UASSP members relating to job security. UASSP will pay up to $1,000 for legal fees. Byron Fisher, attorney for UASSP will provide legal services. Carol Lear of the USOE will write a series of articles in the newsletter regarding legal opinions on school issues to assist administrators.
Legislation. UASSP is planning a vigorous program that advocates legislation for better schools. UASSP is a member of the Utah Public Education Coalition, which represents the USOE, Society of Superintendents, UEA, PTA, and UAESP. The officers of UASSP attend state legislative educational committee meetings year round to stay abreast of bills that will affect schools and administrators.
Professional Development Activities. UASSP presents a variety of inservice programs at a minimal cost. These are presented at different locations during the year and are developed around topics of current interest to school administrators and supervisors. Workshops or seminars provide an opportunity to interact with outstanding leaders in a small group setting. Licensing points may be earned at these conventions and special programs.
Peer Contact.
One of the most valuable benefits of membership is the opportunity to meet with other
school leaders in the state. Through conventions and other activities there is opportunity
to discuss common problems and share information and ideas with others who face similar
challenges of school leadership.
Newsletters. Members will receive
newsletters throughout the year.
National Representation. The UASSP provides members with representation on NASSP Committees and at the NASSP convention.
Impact Magazine. Two publications discussing current educational issues and program that work in local schools will be distributed to members.
Consultant Services. Members may receive upon request advice in dealing with daily problems confronting school administrators. If we are not able to provide answers directly, we will research the problem and seek available sources for solutions.
Research. UASSP conducts research and disseminates results for use by school administrators. This information is a valuable instruments in presenting points of view to state legislators, the public, and the Utah State Office of Education. Copies are research reports will be mailed to all secondary administrators.
Committee & Study Groups. UASSP will form committees or groups to study specific topics pertinent to the needs of the members.
NASSP Publications. The UASSP office includes several NASSP publications. These are available to members upon request. Information can be obtained from NASSP and forwarded to members.
Student Leader and Advisor Training Program. UASSP cosponsors a state training program for student leaders and their advisors. This program is being expanded to include student leaders at the middle level of schooling.
