2013 National and Utah Teacher of the Year Sponsors
The National Teacher of the Year (NTOY) Program began in 1952 and continues as the oldest, most prestigious national honors program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching. The NTOY is chosen from among the State Teachers of the Year by a National Selection Committee representing the major national education organizations. Each April, the NTOY is introduced to the American people by the President of the United States.
The National Teacher of the Year Program, sponsored by Target® , is a project of the Council of Chief State School Officers in partnership with the ING Foundation , the University of Phoenix , and People to People Ambassador Programs .
The National Teacher of the Year is chosen from among the State Teachers of the Year by a national selection committee representing the major national education organizations. Each April, the National Teacher of the Year is introduced to the American people by the President of the United States. The National Teacher of the Year is released from classroom duties during the year of recognition to travel nationally and internationally as a spokesperson for the teaching profession. All activities of the National Teacher, and projects involving the State Teachers of the Year, are coordinated through the National Teacher of the Year Program.
The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. The Council seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
SMART Technologies' Teaching Excellence Award program is an initiative that sponsors teacher-recognition programs through the donation of educational technology products. Through their nation-wide program, they hope to reward inspirational teachers and ensure that the best classroom technologies are made available to both them and their students.
Each US Teacher of the Year receives a technology classroom package as well as several product-training events held in conjunction with the 2012 National Teacher of the Year awards.
Each of the 2012 State Finalists receives a gift of a one-year school site license for SMART Ideas concept-mapping software OR a one-year individual license for SMART Response VE interactive response system. This is a new cloud-based software that enable students to respond to questions and take quizzes using any internet-enabled device, from anywhere.
We would like to thank PC Laptops again for their sixth year in sponsoring the program. They have generously donated a laptop to our 2013 Utah Teacher of the Year.
Thank you to Great Harvest for their donation of wonderful break baskets to all 2013 our District Teachers of the Year. This is their eighth year supporting the program. Donation provided by the following Great Harvest locations: 6357 South Redwood Road in Taylorsville, 905 East 900 South and 4667 South 2300 East in Salt Lake City and 217 East 12300 South in Draper.
We would like to thank McDonalds for their donation, this is their seventh year of supporting the Utah Teacher of the Year Program. They donated a $250.00 cash award to our 2013 Utah Teacher of the Year and a $10 McDonalds gift card to all the 2013 District Teachers of the Year.
We would like to welcome All Filters LLC, this is their first year as a sponsor to our program. They donated a water filter pitcher and a stainless steel bottle with accessories to each 2013 district winner as well as a Shower filter to our 2013 winner.
