Statistics

The Statistics unit deals principally with the collection and reporting of data on two human and two organizational populations within the boundaries of the state of Utah:

  • Students — Persons of school age (5-17 years) who enroll in schools

  • Staff — Adults employed by agencies to provide educational (instructional and support) services to students in schools

  • Schools — Formal groups of staff and students established by agencies who interact in the production and consumption of educational services

  • Agencies — Legislatively established special districts which administer the work of schools within their respective jurisdictions

Our responsibilities include:

  • Managing twice yearly censuses of students

  • Auditing agencies for compliance with student accounting rules

  • Preparing demographic reports and submitting data files to the U.S. Department of Education

  • Contributing statistical analysis to discussion of educational policy issues

  • Consulting on quantitative methodology

  • Leading the USOE Data Warehouse Group

  • Serving as liaison to the National Center for Education Statistics and Utah State Data Center

Our work supports:

  • Allocation of state and federal funds to agencies

  • Evaluation of educational programs

  • School accountability reporting
