Streaming Video

“Streaming video is a sequence of ‘moving images’ that are sent in compressed form over the Internet and displayed by the viewer as they arrive. Streaming media is streaming video with sound. With streaming video or streaming media, a Web user does not have to wait to download a large file before seeing the video or hearing the sound. Instead, the media is sent in a continuous stream and is played as it arrives. The user needs a player, which is a special program that uncompressed and sends video data to the display and audio data to speakers. A player can be either an integral part of a browser or downloaded from the software maker's Web site.” - SearchVoIP.com

Streaming Services

USOE/USOR uses a Flash Media Server to stream all a/v (Audio/Video) content. Content can either be live or achieved for the needs of the office.  The end participants need to have Flash player installed on their computer to access the stream. Flash can be downloaded for PC or Mac.

Events can be streamed live from the USOE South Board Room or the USOE Studio located in room 37 in the basement. Currently there is no cost for departmental streaming.

Streaming live events is useful to reach a vast audience in the State of Utah and is currently used to stream the live Utah State Board of Eduction meetings monthly and the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation In-Service meetings. E-mail can be used to interact with the far end user as long as there is an onsite user to receive the e-mails.

Achieved Flash a/v can be placed on the Flash Media Server for use by all sections to access from their web sites.
