Utah Instructional Media Consortium (UIMC)
The Utah Instructional Media Consortium (UIMC) is a consortium of 41 school district in Utah. The consortium members pool their resources to purchase high-quality media resources to support instruction, and Utah continued to support the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. block of instructional television with some broadcast rights purchased by UIMC. The purchase made by the UIMC provide a substantial discount for the media titles provided by the district media libraries around the state. The purpose of UIMC is to support the educational needs of Utah public school students in the teaching and learning process and the Utah State Core Curriculum. UIMC acts as a recommending body to the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) and/or local school districts for previewing, selecting, purchasing, and distributing school instructional media programs.
History of the Utah Instructional Media Consortium Membership (UIMC)
Through the Utah Instructional Media Consortium (UIMC), hundreds of programs can be accessed in district media centers or online using eMedia. The programs can be used effectively in several curriculum areas and grade levels. Remember, you don’t have to use entire programs or series, you can select one episode in a series or just a segment to use in your classroom. These programs also have generous rights for teachers to use, copy and incorporate into learning centers, lessons, student projects or unit plans. Be sure to check the availability of each program. You can obtain a VHS or DVD of a program purchased by UIMC contact your local district media center or from the Utah State Office of Education by emailing Joy-lyn Gunnell. In most cases you’ll need to cover the costs of the media, but they can record the programs for you.
