Professional Development
Provided by USOE Social Studies

The USOE is committed to providing meaningful professional development opportunities for Utah teachers. This professional development is intended to help teachers develop the capacity to respond to the changing needs of students, and further their own goals of continuous improvement. All of our USOE social studies professional development will carry the new Standards and Practices logo.

Standards and Practices Institutes and Seminars
USOE professional development focuses on core standards and proven classroom practices. The insitutes and seminars will often offer collaboration between university professors and classroom teachers, and will always focus on meeting the needs of teachers with practical implementation ideas and useful content.

Summer Endorsement Courses
This series of courses is designed to provide the content necessary for successful teaching of the social studies core while asssisting teachers in earning endorsements and/or becoming Highly Qualfied. Courses are open to all teachers, K-12. All courses focus on content and pedagogy. Courses are usually one-week long. Lodging, if needed, is covered as part of the course cost. These courses are intended to be a less-costly and more convenient route to full endorsement and/or highly qualified status for Utah teachers, but are open to other teachers desiring more content knowledge on a space-available basis.

Additional Opportunities
We strive to pass on information about other professional development opportunities for Utah teachers. We will include this information on the web site calendar whenever possible. If you know of an event or opportunity that you feel should be included, please let us know.
