Books

  • Mouse Views, What the Class Pet Saw, by Bruce McMillan (ISBN 0-8254-1132-x , Holiday House)
This is a concept story about visual perception and the classroom. It's also the tale of a wandering mouse and what he encounters as he wanders around the classroom. Elementary students can look at each "school tool" with a new visual perspective. At the end of the story children can sharpen their map skills.

  • Lily and Trooper's Winter by Jung-Hee Spetter ( ISBN 1-8886910-39-1 Front Street & Lemniscaat)
Share the delight of a winter day with Lily and her dog, Trooper. Snow falls in the morning and Lily bundles up in warm clothes. Together she and Trooper create a snow friend, slip and slide in skates on a frozen pon, and zoom downhill on skis. At day's end, the crystal-clear sky draws them to the window for star-gazing, and soon the cozy bed feels extra nice.

  • Friends at School, by Rochelle Bunnett (ISBN 0-590-97313-4, Scholastic Inc.)
Through photographs and smiles this book shows and tells in few words how to get along in kindergarten. Friendship is very important and the book also shows how to act as a friend.
