  • The Learning Page
    The Learning Page is designed to help educators use the American Memory Collections to teach history and culture. It offers tips and tricks, definitions and rationale for using primary sources, activities, discussions, lesson plans and suggestions for using the collections in classroom curriculum.

  • Utah State Office of Education Recommended Instructional Materials System (RIMS)
    Find instructional materials that have been adopted by the Utah State Office of Education.

  • National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS)
    Founded in 1921, National Council for the Social Studies has grown to be the largest association in the country devoted solely to social studies education. NCSS engages and supports educators in strengthening and advocating social studies. With members in all the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 69 foreign countries, NCSS serves as an umbrella organization for elementary, secondary, and college teachers of history, geography, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and law-related education.

    This book gives the user the ins and outs of writing calligraphy. It also adds projects as it teaches a craft; i.e., a sun clock, gift wrap and tags, and calligraphy alphabets.

    Everything you ever wanted to know, anything that you need to find out, and every Greek personage is found in this teacher resource book Battles and intrigues of the Olympian gods are retold here by a famous poet, novelist, and classicist of today. ˆ

    A complete resource filled with background information, primary sources, hands-on activities, art projects, maps, reproducables, and much, much more ranging from ancient China to modern day China.

  • The Middle Ages by Rebecca Stark (ISBN 1-56644-971-5, Educational Impressions)
    The principal objective of this book is to give students an overview of the fascinating times of the Middle Ages. Another important objective of this study unit is the development of the higher thinking skills. They may be adjusted to suit your particular teaching style, time limitations, and/or the ability level of the children.

  • Teaching Shakespeare-Yes you Can! By Lorraine Hopping Egan (ISBN 0-590-37401-X, Scholastic)
    This book offers creative, highly motivating activities that work for almost any Shakespeare play. It provides examples and models from a variety of plays, including the often-overlooked comedies, along with ideas for independent or small-group projects across the curriculum. Many of the activities also include a ready-to-use reproducible.

  • The Dragons Are Singing Tonight by Jack Prelutsky with pictures by Peter Sis (ISBN 0-688-16162-6, Mulberry Books)
    Dragons fierce and dragons friendly; dragons lurking outside castles and dragons bought at the mall; dragons' lairs and dragons' eggs; even a menacing dragon that lives inside a computer-all spring to life in these enchanting poems and paintings.

    This densely illustrated reference book covers the span of world history, from the earliest settlements of about 9000B.C. right up to the present. Illustrated date charts provide quick and easy reference, backed up by fascinating features on important themes in history. This book has over 3,500 dates. World History Dates is an incredibly comprehensive guide to what happened when and where.

  • We Remember the Holocaust by David A. Adler (ISBN 0-590-76351-2, Trumpet Club)
    These are the true stories of living people who endured the Holocaust. Most of the people quoted in this book were children or teenagers when the events they described occurred. Remembering these events and talking about them was difficult, but they spoke so we would remember the sufferings of an entire people. The book is filled with pictures of the writers or pictures about them to help you look at the whole person. ˆ
