Saturday History Seminar

Put this date on your calendar and come and enjoy us for a great Saturday filled with great classes, good friends, and free food. Classes start at 8:30 a.m and conclude at 3:00 p.m. Classes include both secondary and elementary focuses.

Presenters Include: Steven K. Madsen, Dr. Ray Gunn, Dr. John Reed, Dr. Fred Gowans, Dr. Cory Little, Chris Hall, Stephanie Seeley, Pam Smith & Jan Rolan, Nick Demas, Rachel Pike, Beth Clements, Quinn Rollins, Nathan Spofford.

Topics include: Etienne Provost, Macomb Expedition-1859, Vietnam, Wikis in the Social Studies classroom, Data Based Questions for pre-A.P., Utah History Fair, Art in the Social Studies classroom, Kids contributing to communities (3rd grade), Utah Governement (4th grade), Civil War (5th grade), World Wars to today. This is just a sampling of what you will be experiencing.

Saturday Social Studies Methods Class

Come learn social studies methods that will engage students. Curriculum design and strategies built on the notions of enduring understandings and essential questions. Historical thinking, scope and sequence, and the creation of useful units are just some of what will be covered.

Course session dates: Jan 23, 30; Feb 6, 20 & 27

Course location: South Jordan MS, 10245 S 2700 W, South Jordan UT

Participants will be mailed Understanding By Design to read prior to the first class (early January 2010).

Lunch provided at workshop each day.

3 semester hours social studies credit through SUU, $45 recording fee

written to SUU due at first class.
