EVOLUTION AND THE NATURE OF SCIENCE

The EVOLUTION PROJECT is a public broadcast series designed to help you expand your students' understanding of evolution and the nature of science. It will run September 24-27, 8-10 pm—Check your local listings. Plan now to watch and video tape the series. The Evolution Project includes a variety of multimedia resources: the broadcast series which is a 7 part, eight hour series, an evolution web site (http://www.pbs.org/evolution), a multi media library, short classroom videos, online student lessons, teacher methodology videos, an online professional development course, and a teacher's guide.

You may sign up for a FREE copy of the teacher's guide on the Web at http://www.pbs.org/evolution. The guide's seven units include two to three activities, an in-depth investigation, learning goals, background information for teachers, resource lists, and extension activities. The seven units address the following questions and areas:

  • Unit 1: What Is the Nature of Science?

  • Unit 2: Who Was Charles Darwin?

  • Unit 3: What Is the Evidence for Evolution?

  • Unit 4: How Does Evolution Work?

  • Unit 5: How Did Humans Evolve?

  • Unit 6: Why Does Evolution Matter?

  • Unit 7: Why Is Evolution Controversial?

Ryan Rasmussen, Lead Teacher for the Evolution Project in Utah, will conduct workshops specific to Teaching Evolution in the Classroom.
