AFA Memorandum for Utah Educators
Subject: Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year Awards
This year, the Aerospace Education Foundation (AEF), an affiliate of the Air Force Association (AFA), will present the Utah State Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year Chapter and State Awards. These awards are exceptional opportunities to recognize special Utah teachers!
AFA and AEF recognize the valuable role educators fill in stimulating our youth to "reach for the stars" in their dreams and aspirations to make the world of tomorrow a better place. These awards will recognize educators who have taken the initiative to instill a basic awareness of aviation and space-related math, science, history, technologies and/or applications – those innovative and hard-working teachers who emphasize connection between their classrooms and our nation’s need for qualified individuals in aerospace endeavors and careers.
This is a significant opportunity, and we encourage widest-possible interest and participation! The three best Utah candidates will be recognized by one of the three Utah AFA Chapters and will be awarded the Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year Chapter Award, which includes $300 and a certificate. The best candidate of these three will then be selected for the Utah AFA State Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year Award, which includes an additional $350, a certificate and a personalized jacket.
Utah AFA/AEF will also submit our State winner for the National Aerospace Education Foundation’s very prestigious Christa McAuliffe Memorial Award, which celebrates nationally the critical connection between classroom teachers and our nation’s vital aerospace future. One teacher is recognized each year and is given a $500 stipend, and an expense-paid trip to Washington, DC, to receive the award at the Air Force Association National Convention in September 2001. Utah has a past Christa McAuliffe Memorial winner, so we know we have highly qualified candidates, if we just identify them!
