Time for you to make up your own fictitious creature - it can be plant, animal, or any combination of the above. You may create a 2-dimensional creature on paper using crayons, markers, etc. or you may want to use clay, Playdough, etc. to create a 3-dimensional model of your creature.

While creating your fictitious creature, keep in mind where it will live (habitat) and what it eats (diet). Be sure to include adaptations on your creature that help it live in its habitat and adaptations to its diet. For example, a creature living in a cold climate may have lots of thick fur. And a creature that feeds on meat should have sharp teeth.

After you have drawn or constructed a model of your creature, write down the following information on a piece of paper -

• your name
  
• creature's name (not like Bob or Shirley, more like giraffelephant or cactafish)
  
• creature's gender (male, female, etc.) - may influence the colors you use
  
• habitat - where your creature lives (not necessarily a specific city or country, but more of a
• climatic location - such as desert or rainforest)
  
• adaptations to habitat - list any adaptations your creature has that help it live where it does
  
• diet - what your creature eats
  
• adaptations to diet - list any adaptations your creature has that help it eat what it eats
  
• other interesting information you'd like to add about your creature (sounds it makes, number of young, migration, etc.)

Show your creature to a friend, parent, teacher, etc. (Without your written information). Ask them if they can guess where your creature lives and what it eats just by looking at it. If they can, you have given your creature successful adaptations and it would most likely survive and reproduce!
