CHEMISTRY ACTIVITIES AND EXPERIMENTS

NOTICE: The Science Core Experiments are the work of Utah science teachers. These activities were developed under the direction of five district consortiums. They are sets of Experiments and Inquiries that provide instructional activities aligned to the Science Core Curriculum. They are currently in DRAFT form. We encourage you to review these activities and provide comment. The critieria for evaluation is included in the evaluation link below. Feel free to fill this form out and send it in to Brett Moulding, Utah State Office of Education, 250 East 500 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.

Evaluation Form

Chemistry Inquiry Activities

1. Periodic Organization of Elements - 3620-0102: Correlate the position of elements on the periodic table with their atomic structure.

2. Investigating Titration Curves - 3620-0701: Experimentally test a hypothesis using volumetric titration.

3. Investigating Chemical Equilibrium - 3620-0501: Identify variables and predict relative changes in equilibrium of a chemical reaction.

4. Differences Between Ionic and Covalent Compounds - 3620-0301: Examine and identify physical and chemical properties of molecules related to bond types.

5. Comparing Reaction Rate - 3620-0502: Quantify factors which control the rates of chemical reactions and determine their effects.

6. Modeling the Mass of the Electron - 3620-0201: Explain the need for various models of the atom.

Chemistry Core Experiments

1. Comparative Study of Common Household Solutions - 3620-0701: Experimentally test a hypothesis using volumetric titration.

2. The Colors of Kool-Aid - 3620-0702: Experimentally test a hypothesis using chromatography.

3. What About Batteries? - 3620-0703: Quantitatively investigate electron flow in chemical reactions.

4. Factors Affecting Reaction Rates - 3620-0502: Quantify factors which control the rate of chemical reactions and determine their effects.

5. The Colligative Properties of Solutions - 3620-0603: Relate concentration to colligative properties of solutions.

6. Determining the Heat of Reaction - 3620-0402: Investigate evidences of energy transformations in a chemical reaction.
