How Does Earth Impact Other Systems?

When you look at a globe, you see continents surrounded by oceans. As you observe the globe at the right, notice the continents of South America and Africa look like puzzle pieces.

Why are these two continents edges so similar? Why do the shapes look like they belong together? Could it be the continents are part of a big puzzle and can be moved around like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle?

This unit is designed to help you understand why continent shapes appear like puzzle pieces. In addition, you will learn how severe events, such as volcanoes and earthquakes are related to these pieces.
