Science Language Students Should Know and Use

Amplitude:

The maximum distance from the resting point of a wave.

Complex machines:

A machine that utilizes two or more simple machines. (inclined plane, wedge, screw, lever, wheel and axle).

Energy:

The capability to do work or cause a change.

Force:

A push or a pull on an object.

Friction:

A force that opposes motion. The  force that one surface exerts on another when the two rub against each other. 

Gravity:

The  invisible force that pulls objects toward each other.  

Potential energy:

Energy that is stored and held in readiness.

Kinetic energy:

Energy of movement or motion.

Wave:

A disturbance that transfers energy from place to place.
