Map It
If rocks could talk...
We have investigated rocks, minerals, and fossils. Geologists,
(people who study rocks), love to come to Utah to study
rocks, minerals, and fossils. As you travel through the state, imagine
that you are a geologist and take a look at all of the great land formations
we have here.
Look at the canyon walls and visit our National Parks to see the wonders
of nature. Rocks give us our best clues as to what happened on Earth many
millions of years before history was ever recorded. (Prehistoric means
before history was recorded).
Do It!
- Think about what you have learned in this unit and the Rocks, Minerals and soils unit, and compose a poem about rocks, minerals and/or fossils.
- On a map of Utah, use colors to identify mineral, rock and fossil resources. Make a key that identifies the color coding of the different type of resources. (Example: Carbon/black—coal)
- Pick a different world country and compare minerals and rocks and fossils that are found there to those found in Utah.
