Let's look again at the photograph of the fossils you saw when we looked at the fossil features. Do you remember thinking it looked like it had shells inside it?

Remember that this rock was found in Utah. Answer the following questions:

  1. Where in Utah would you find an ocean with sea shells in it?
  2. How did the environment of Utah change over time?
  3. Where in Utah do we find fossil tracks of dinosaurs?

  4. Fossil tracks have been found in Emery and Uintah counties. Coal is also found in these two counties. Coal was formed from plants that lived in a swamp. Are Emery and Uintah counties swampy?

Draw a picture of what you think Emery and Uintah counties looked like when these plants and swamp animals lived in the state.
