Create a small environment such as a terrarium, aquarium, or flowerbed composed of living and non-living things. Your environment might have rocks, dirt, and water. For living things in an environment one could have insects, plants, and small reptiles. Remember to have plenty of air in your environment. Plants need air too. Record the effects of change (temperature, amount of water, light) in your environment. You might want to have three different environments and try different changes.

Example: An experiment using plants.

Experiment 1: Use identical plants.

• Place one in direct sunlight, one in partial sunlight, and one in a dark place.
• Record results after five days

Experiment 2: Use identical plants

• Water one plant everyday, one plant twice a week, and do not water one plant.
• Record results after two weeks

Experiment 3: Use identical plants

• Place one plant in the freezer, one by a heater, and one plant in the middle of a room.
• Record results after five days
