Program Criteria

Funding Criteria

The selection committee will use the following revised criteria when evaluating the applications:

  • State MESA funds are focused on districts with high quality plans and schools with the highest concentrations of targeted students.  Schools eligible for MESA funds meet or exceed 55% of targeted students in the school population. A list of eligible schools for each district/charter school is available.  Schools on this list will receive the highest funding priority.
  • Schools not on the list of eligible schools may be part of the district funding application. The plan allows for districts to develop a rationale for inclusion of a limited number of additional schools. A justification for the inclusion of these schools is requested in the Statement of Need section in the application. These schools will be considered as a lower priority and may be funded at a lower rate.
  • Awarded funds must be spent in the funded school or its feeder system. Funds may be focused on particular schools within the feeder system, particular levels (Jr. High/Middle School, High School), or particular students (based on academic achievement criteria).  Funds may also be used at the district level to provide support for the MESA program as a whole.
  • The total MESA budget for 2007-2008 is $517,735.  An example of distribution of funds:
    • Student Involvement
$517,735.00 X 60% = $310,641.00 will be used to determine the per student amount.
    • Example:  $64 per student (to be determined) based on the average student count for the following time periods:
                    May 2006          December 2006        May 2007
    • Quality of Program Delivery
The MESA budget for 2007-2008 is $517,735.00.  $517,735 x 40% = $207,094 will be used to determine the per school amount.
    • Example:  $1,816 per school (to be determined) multiple by the percentage of the End of Year Evaluation score.
