We are going to be examining how we create excitement for learning, how we communicate meaningfully, and how to be wonderfully brilliant in the use of our technological resources in accomplishing this! The sessions are designed to provide:
The details on sessions and presenters are hot linked on the registration form. Questions: (801) 538-7793 REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS: Please read carefully before selecting your classes. While in most conferences it would work to have more teachers come for one day as opposed to fewer teachers for both days, the Networking Conference is designed developmentally as opposed to stand-alone sessions. Two teachers may not share one registration. We recommend that schools end teams with one person responsible for covering each art form exclusively, although to broaden the experience, attending additional master teacher demonstrations in other art forms is built into the course design for Friday. District Arts Coordinators are encouraged to send teams from their district who can return and provide training locally. Be careful to fill out everything completely and make out your checks carefully. You will not be receiving a receiving a registration confirmation. Your registration enables us to order adequate classroom materials, plan room sizes, and order meals, snacks. We are limited to 450, so register early. THERE WILL BE NO REGISTRATION AT THE DOOR. Thank you for your enthusiasm for the arts! SESSION DETAILS: Opening Session and Follow-up Breakouts. Our presenter, Dianne Smith, is a masterful teachers and a highly sought-after presenter in the art of effective instruction. She will be presenting a multi-media, cross-curricular lesson on the Moldau. She will employ the very common to the seemingly sophisticated instructional tools and strategies. A former 6th grade teacher, Dianne serves currently as a technologist in the Davis District. The follow-up breakouts are designed as opportunities to debrief on DianneÃs presentation, actively exploring questions like: How to actually apply what was seen as it pertains to the art form? How to manage or restructure a classroom? How to get resources? Why bother? What outcomes can be expected? Core Instruction Sessions. Each of these sessions is led by a teaching team composed of an elementary classroom teacher and an arts educator. The goal of these in-depth, and very active sessions is to gain conceptual skill development in the artful and effective teaching of core objectives. Within this three-hour workshop there will be a brief exposure to related Internet resources with Dianne Smith, Zach Tippets, and Rick Gaisford serving as the tour guides. What is taught in this session will be then modeled by a master teacher with school children on Friday morning. Please register for classes in the same art form both days, as the conference is designed for each session to build to the next in a developmental sequence, and having the foundation built in each case is important to understanding and benefiting fully from the expertise we have gathered. Administrative Session (for principals and district arts coordinators): Creating an Administrative Vision to Touch the Hearts of Children Through The Arts. úSchools that do not teach the arts are, literally, creating a generation that is less civilized than it could be, and more barbaric than it should be.î (Charles Fowler, arts writer and consultant, American Council for the Arts, 1988). This administrative session will explore creative connections in the development of arts-based programs. Schools Administrators participating will develop/transfer/share enthusiasm and knowledge to involve students, parents, PTAÃs, in quality arts education programs in the school community. The stage will be set to explore how, when, and where to begin and how to continue. Exhibitors and Vendors Fair. The latest materials, student and teacher resources, childrenÃs literature, technological tools will all be on display and available for examination and/or purchase. Representatives from several professional artistic organizations will be on hand to visit, demonstrations and prizes will be part of this fair---a little Disneyland for arts educators. Be prepared to purchase, should you desire. Master Teacher Demonstrations with School Children. Master teachers will model teaching with school children. These will be a lively realization and culmination of what was studied in the related core sessions. You will be able to see four different sessions of master teachers at work in their element and ask questions of both teachers and children following the demonstration. Retreat Renewal Box Supper (for Ã95, Ã96, Ã98, Ã00 Retreat alumni). A casual, social gathering for any who have attended the Summer Arts Retreat. We will share success stories and renew acquaintances. Pre-Conference Dinner Meeting (For CAUS, DAC, and Grant School Representatives). This will be the first meeting of C.A.U.S. convened this year, and the second joint meeting of CAUS and DAC. We will be clarifying what our issues are now in the arts education in Utah. What are the holes? How can we define and address them? Representatives from the schools that are on experimental arts grants will be joining us to ask for direction in how to best reach their goals. Our combined expertise can help these schools to improve arts learning. In the process of helping, we can develop a clearer vision of how to martial and set into motion all our resources (public and private) I the seamless, cradle-to-grave continuum we have envisioned for arts education. Come enjoy dinner, camaraderie, and experiments in progress. CAUS members may register for this event, or for the entire conference. Those who work with pre-service teachers might consider encouraging their students to register. Student úpackagesî can be negotiated. |
