Welcome to Utah Youth in Custody

The Utah Youth In Custody Program was created by the legislature, and the first contracts between the Utah Board of Education and local school districts were initiated in 1979. The Youth In Custody Program has since grown in sophistication, quality, and delivery of services. The material at this Web site comes from the Youth in Custody handbook which is a product of the joint effort of the Utah Coordinating Council for Youth In Custody, the staff of the Utah State Office of Education, and school district YIC program directors. The purpose of this Web site is to improve the information available to program directors, and to provide a basis from which systematic policies and procedures may be followed to maximize quality services to youth in custody of a Utah State agency. This web site will be updated as needed to assure a continuing common base of information and procedures. Each program director is encouraged to use the resources found here in accomplishing their responsibilities, and to make recommendations for material changes and improvements.
