Overview About CTE Calendar Areas of Study Supporting Programs Funding

Utah’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs provide all students with a seamless education system, from public education to postsecondary education, driven by a College and Career Ready Plan. There are many exciting and challenging career opportunities and CTE strives to ensure that employers in Utah have a skilled workforce. Our programs are designed to connect secondary students with postsecondary training, and build partnerships with business and industry.

Career and Technical Education encompasses a variety of programs structured to equip students with work and life skills. Through participation in CTE Career Pathways students gain the technical skills and academic knowledge needed to prepare for future employment and/or a successful transition to postsecondary education.

Career and Technical Education training is vital. By the year 2020, two out of three jobs will require some postsecondary education and training. CTE is an essential component in filling these job openings. The jobs of today require advanced skills and technical training. Students wanting to stay competitive in the job market need specific training, education, and skills to compete successfully. CTE provides students with the necessary training, education, and hands-on skills to be successful in college and career. College means 1, 2, 4, or more—a one-year certificate, a two-year associate degree, a four-year bachelor’s degree, or a professional degree.

Utah is working to achieve the goal of 66 percent of adults holding a postsecondary certificate or a degree by the year 2020. Each student participating in a CTE program has the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary for entry into postsecondary training and careers with high potential for rapid financial growth, increased levels of responsibility, and a high degree of personal satisfaction.

We are very proud of the excellent Career and Technical Education programs throughout the state. We are committed to helping students achieve their educational and career goals as they prepare for careers that are most in demand and that are part of the economic development of the state.
