Keyboarding Curriculum Resources
Students gain mastery of touch operation on a computer keyboard.
KEYBOARDING I
In the beginning semester keyboarding course, the student will master
touch operation on a computer keyboard. Correct fingering by touch and good
techniques will receive primary emphasis; speed and accuracy will be given
secondary emphasis. The fourth row numbers and symbols and 10-key pad will
also be taught. The student will use basic word processing functions on
a variety of document types.
Standards and Objectives - PDF
STANDARD 1
The student will demonstrate correct touch keyboarding techniques at the keyboard and use appropriate terminology to identify computer components.
STANDARD 2
Students will develop touch keystroking speed and accuracy.
STANDARD 3
Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of basic word processing functions and proofreading.
STANDARD 4
Students will develop skill composing at the keyboard.
KEYBOARDING APPLICATIONS
This 7-12 grade course is designed to increase student keyboarding skill
through drill practice and reinforcement of correct techniques. Students
will use word processing software to create, format, and edit personal and
business documents.

Students will demonstrate mastery of touch keyboarding using correct techniques.
STANDARD 2
Students will improve speed and accuracy keyboarding ability.
STANDARD 3
Students will create and edit a variety of documents; i.e., reports, letters, memos, emails, labels and envelopes from unarranged, edited, and script copy using word processing software.

Students create a cookbook, enhancing keyboarding skills, as well as several word processing skills. |

Schools need to purchase basal/core or recommended primary materials that have gone through an independent alignment to the Utah Core. Schools may still purchase materials not listed on the state RIMs list as long as they have been reviewed and approved by their local school board.
