Charter School Application

Modification of Charter

A charter contractual agreement may be modified by mutual agreement of the chartering entity and the governing board of the charter school (Utah Code 53A-1a-508). An existing charter school may submit an amendment request to the State Charter School Board for a modification of its contractual agreement.

Amendment Request

The State Charter School Board considers amendment requests from charter school governing boards at each of its meetings. Charter school governing boards requesting waivers from board rules, changes to board member composition, expansion of student enrollment, changes to performance measures, changes to the school's educational program or methods of instruction, relocation to another school district/municipality, or postponement of opening year, must complete the Amendment Request below and submit it, along with all supporting documentation, no later than three weeks prior to the meeting.

A consent calendar is a component of a meeting agenda that enables the board to group items and resolutions under one umbrella. As the name implies, there is a general agreement on the procedure. Issues in this consent package do not need any discussion before a vote. Unless a board member feels that an item should be discussed and requests the removal of that item ahead of time, the entire package is voted on at once without any additional explanations or comments. Charter school governing boards requesting matriculation agreements must complete the Consent Calendar Request below and submit it, along with all supporting documentation, no later than three weeks prior to the meeting.

Administrative approval may be sought for routine items such as changing the name of the school, decreasing grades served or student enrollment, accelerating an approved growth model, changing grade configuration, and technical corrections. No additional students can be granted through administrative approval. Charter school governing boards requesting routine changes may complete the Administrative Approval Request below and submit it, along with all supporting documentation, at any time. Turnaround of administrative approval requests is approximately two weeks.
