Paraprofessional
'"Paraprofessional" means an individual who works under the supervision
of a teacher or other licensed/certificated professional who has identified
responsibilities in the public classroom.
Paraprofessional Qualifications
Qualifications of Paraprofessionals Title 1, Part A, Subpart 1, Section
1119. Paraprofessionals must meet ONE of the following requirements
to be considered "highly qualified" under No Child Left Behind.
- Complete at least two years of post-secondary study. Must have a
minimum of 48 semester hours from an accredited institution of higher
education.
- Obtain an associate's (or higher) degree from an accredited institution
of higher education.
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate knowledge of
and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics,
through a formal
state or local academic assessment (contact your local district).
