Each standard contains specific elements of the teaching practice, but all of the standards are interrelated and work together to provide a complete picture of effective teaching practices to promote high quality student learning. The standards are designed to be used by teachers to:

- to prompt reflection about student learning and teaching practice;
- guide and assess the progress of a teacher’s practice toward professional goals and student achievement
