Inservices/College Course Work/Demonstrated Competency

A teacher with a major or minor in Speech will receive endorsement to teach secondary Speech courses if the methods courses below are covered in that major. An endorsement to teach Speech without a major or minor in Speech requires a minimum of 24 hours of either approved college coursework or approved inservice classes. Coursework must include, but is not limited to, the following:
[ ] Principles of public speaking (selection of subjects for specific speech purposes, fundamental skills of speech preparation and methods of delivery).
[ ] Listening (acquisition of listening skills facilitating in-depth learning, retention, and recall in oral communication.).
[ ] Fundamentals of oral interpretation (oral reading of literature with emphasis on techniques of impression and expression).
[ ] Debate and argumentation (analysis, reasoning, types of evidence, organization, delivery, and techniques in logic as they apply to forensic situations; techniques of debate with emphasis on analysis and application of various forms of evidence in debate).
[ ] Radio and television performance and production (theory and practice in major forms of radio and television production).
[ ] Methods of teaching speech (methods and techniques of teaching speech in the secondary schools).
Or
[ ] Receive verification from USOE Secondary Language Arts Specialist by providing the specialist with university course syllabi and a transcript noting each course to be reviewed for equivalency outside the State of Utah.
Or
[ ] Show evidence of participation in all sessions of each approved university/inservice course (the applicant may have facilitated course delivery, but not formally registered for the course/s) or show evidence of being an adjunct instructor or university instructor for each of the approved Speech endorsement courses.

- Attach your original transcript(s), and highlight corresponding classes. Internet transcripts are not acceptable.
- Send the highlighted transcript, the processing fee, and the completed form to:
