EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY ENDORSEMENT

INSERVICE/COLLEGE COURSE WORK/DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCY

Practicing K-12 teachers are increasingly expected to exhibit technology skills, as well as content pedagogical knowledge on how to effectively use technology to enhance student learning. The new educational technology core also requires that students create multimedia presentations, conduct research using technology, use technology resources for solving problems and making informed decisions, as well as learning the social, ethical and human issues related to technology. The endorsement strengthens educators’ technology integration skills as well as creating technology enhanced learning environments for their students.

An elementary teacher whose assignment is as the school's technology teacher instead of teaching a regular class should have a EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY or a COMPUTER SCIENCE Endorsement.

Minimum Requirements:

[ ] Endorsement participants are required to develop a portfolio highlighting the projects created.

[ ] Technology Leadership - 3 credits
The goal of the course is to provide educational leaders the knowledge and skills necessary to promote the effective use of technology in the classroom. The course will include such topics as the history of technology in education, school reform, technology standards, evaluation and assessment, pedagogical teaching reform, educational technology legal issues, governance and funding, professional development, equity and access issues.

[ ] Foundations of Instructional Design - 3 credits
The goal of this course is to provide an introduction to instructional design theories, principles and models and an overview of their historical development. Instructional design models are considered with respect to their implications for technology applications in education.

[ ] Classroom Integration of Educational Technology - 3 credits
This course is intended to build upon foundational skills to reach heightened understanding of how to integrate technology tools into the K-12 classroom in order to create valuable learning experiences for students. Class participants will research technology utilization in classrooms; investigate theoretical foundations to evaluate select, and utilize various technology applications; develop, implement and evaluate class technology integration projects; gain an understanding of multiple models for assessing student learning in technology enhanced environments.

[ ] Enhanced Software & Hardware Skills - 3 credits
Individuals completing the Educational Technology Endorsement should be able demonstrate knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology, as well as demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies. The following are possible class options:

Power Point (Multimedia)
Excel (Spreadsheets)
Digital Camera in the Classroom
Digital Video in the Classroom
GIS (Geographic Information System)
Web-design courses: Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash

[ ] Technology Pedagogy - 5 credits
The Technology Pedagogy series will provide skills for planning and designing effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Likewise, teachers will implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Individuals will also learn ways to apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Potential classes include:

Information Literacy
Causal Mapping & Curriculum Framing using Technology
Electronic Portfolios
Teaching with WebQuests
Utilizing Technology in Creating Problem-based Curriculum
