Endorsements, Demonstrated Competency, and Lines of Evidence Endorsements

All endorsements attach to a license area of concentration (Elementary (1-8), Secondary (6-12), Special Education (K-12+)…etc.) and are restricted to specific grades by the license area.

Listed below are the procedures to assist you in obtaining additional subject matter endorsement(s). These procedures require that you contact the State Office Specialist. Please be aware that in order to be eligible to apply for demonstrated competency, you must have taught (under contract) for two years in the subject within the previous five-year period. This experience must have taken place in Utah. Lines of evidence may include the following:

  • Any college courses in the subject matter area on transcripts*.
  • Any Professional Development courses in the subject matter area.
  • Special methods courses.
  • The recommendation of your principals and others, which must be specific to the subject.
  • A passing score from a standardized test in the subject in which endorsement is sought.
  • Student test scores on achievement tests in the subject.

Original transcripts are required and must be on original college transcript paper or e-mailed directly from the University to transcripts[at]schools[dot]utah[dot]gov(transcripts). We do not accept photo copies or transcripts printed online. Applicants submitting electronic transcripts via e-mail should do so before submitting the application and should note this on the application.
