Windows GUI

This page contain general instruction about using CACTUS within the Windows GUI (Graphical User Interface) environment.  There is a link Visit WinFiles.com Now! to a site with more advanced help.

Please note that many of the windows, including the Educator Tab pages, of CACTUS normally you accessed from icons or menu selections can also be activated with hot/short-cut keys.  For example, ALT+C (the ALT key held down while pressing the "C" key) will activate the License/ Area/  Endorsements tab page from within the Educator Tab page.  The definitions of all these hot keys can be found by finding the menu item in the menu bar used to access that window.  All the Educator Tab page hot-keys are found in the Educator/teacher menu list.

EDIT

Undo

The Undo (Ctrl+Z) menu item is used when manipulating text in single or multi-line edit boxes such as the one found in the Educator's Comments Tab.   Undo reverses the operation just completed.  For example, if you just "Cut" a section of text out the the box, clicking on Undo will reinstate the text at the place from which it was removed.

Cut

The Cut (Ctrl+X) menu item is used when manipulating text in single or multi-line edit boxes such as the one found in the Educator's Comments Tab.  If you highlight a section of text, clicking on Cut will remove the highlighted section text.  The text is actually not lost but copied to the clipboard where it can be copied somewhere else with the use of the paste command.  Highlighting is done by moving the vertical bar form of the cursor to the first character you want to highlight, left clicking and then dragging the cursor over the other characters you wish to highlight.  See Copy too

Copy

The Copy (Ctrl+C) menu item is used when manipulating text in single or multi-line edit boxes such as the one found in the Educator's Comments Tab.   If you highlight a section of text, clicking on Copy will copy the highlighted section text to the clipboard.   It can be copied somewhere else with the use of the Paste command.  See Cut too.

Paste

The Paste (Ctrl+V) menu item is used when manipulating text in single or multi-line edit boxes such as the one found in the Educator's Comments Tab.   Once the cursor (in its vertical bar form) is positioned in the box, clicking on Paste will copy the current contents of the clipboard into the box starting at that position.

Select All

Instead of highlighting the entire contents of an edit box by dragging the cursor over all the text, you can click on Select All (Ctrl+A) to have all the text in the box automatically highlighted.
