Educator Tab Pages

The Educator Tab Pages window is the core of the CACTUS system.  This is where you can access all the information kept on file for an individual educator in one place. Here is what the CACTUS Educator Tab Pages Window looks like.  If you just want information about a specific tab, click on it now, or use the text list on the left side.  For more information about the Person/Educator Tab Pages read on below.

There is no mechanism for deleting educators because their records must be kept for many years, even if they are deceased. It is not unusual for a educator to re-certify after a break of some years and return to teaching.  Each educator’s full record consists of demographic data, qualifications for teaching, experience, and Professional Development courses.

The demographic information for the educator appears at the top of the window.  Below the demographic information are two rows of tab pages.  The upper row contains the tabs for: License/ Area/ Endorsements, Address, Authorizations, Exemptions, Background Information, and Dossier.  The lower row contains the tabs for: Current Assignments, Degrees, State Approved Endorsements, Professional Development, Comments, Experience History, and Assignments History.  To see the data in a particular tab, just click on it to open that tab page.  If you don't see all of these tabs, it is because your security level does not authorize you to see them.

The data in most of these tab pages is arranged in one or more sets of rows with each row having one or more fields or columns.  If you want to modify one of these rows, point the cursor in that field and left click.   This will highlight the column and row, or give it "focus".     Note: it is recommended that you click on the left most field or column.   Use your tab key to move across the row from left to right, changing data as required.  If there is an arrow in the right-most position of the column, click on the arrow to open a drop-down list of the valid data items, or type the first letter of the data.  If you are on a drop-down column and you want to enter Weber District, you might type WE very fast, and it will go right to Weber District (if you are too slow, you will get Wasatch District).  To add or delete a row, move the cursor to the row you want to delete,  or the row after which you want to add, and click the right mouse button.  A pop-up menu to appear with options for adding and deleting.  To add a row, click on "add".   To delete, click on "delete", and the row which last had "focus" or was highlighted will be deleted.  You will be asked to confirm the deletion before it actually takes place.  See the sample tab page with pop-up menu above.

There is a resizing bar that separates the upper and lower tab pages.  This can be used to redistribute the area assigned to the two rows of tabs.  By placing the cursor over this bar it will change into an up and down arrow.  Left click on the mouse and before you release the mouse button, pull the window up to increase the area of the lower tab pages or pull the window down to increase the area of the upper tab pages.  Likewise there is a resizing bar between the upper and lower part any individual tab page if it is divided into two sets of rows.  The License and Endorsement tab page is a good example of this with the licenses in the upper part of the page and the Endorsements in the lower part.
