DEFINITION
Clinical work experiences are different from other structured work experiences in that some require on-site supervision by a certified teacher or faculty member. These experiences usually take place in medical settings, where students have opportunities to practice the skills they have learned in the classroom. A clinical is a structured practical application of previously studied theory. It is a combination of course work and part-time work experience.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

• Be in good standing and receive prior approval
  
• Be a junior or senior in high school
  
• Complete required forms

LIABILITY EXPOSURE
Work site liability is the responsibility of the respective school district in an unpaid experience. Utah state law provides for the school district's worker's compensation insurance to cover non-paid student learners.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

• Meet performance and attendance standards set by the school
• Obtain and complete required forms
• Contact the employer confirming work time, location, etc.
• Use transportation approved and/or provided by the parent
• Dress appropriately for the work site, including all appropriate safety clothing and equipment
• Notify the employer of absences in advance
• Report accidents, injuries or concerns to school supervisor, work supervisor and parent
• Show honesty, punctuality, a cooperative attitude, proper grooming and a willingness to learn

EMPLOYER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Sign training agreement
  
• Approve student learning objectives
• Provide time to orient, train and give feedback to the student
• Review progress with the student periodically
  
• Allow supervisor to visit the student at the work site
  
• Contact school supervisor regarding termination, injury, accidents or problems
  
• Maintain open communication with student, school and parents

SCHOOL SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Obtain completed forms
• Coordinate goals and requirements with the employer and student
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the experience
• Provide data to work-based learning coordinator
