Utah Keyboarding Software Review

Software Title:  Paradigm Skillbuilding Year Published:  1999
Suggested Age:   12+ years Rating:  Excellent
Description:  Paradigm Skillbuilding provides students with opportunities to sharpen their keyboarding skills within the context of correct language use. The program is intended for students who have completed beginning keyboarding and are looking to increase their keying speed and control while strengthening vocabulary and word choice knowledge. The Windows-based software program correlated with the text provides motivating drills and activities that address identified weaknesses.  The accompanying software includes an activity-rich student program that is integrated closely with the text. After taking a pretest, students can select their own speed goals or use a default goal when completing the “Keyboard Skillbuilders.” If a goal is not achieved the first time, the student repeats the drills. When the focus is control rather than speed, the software immediately alerts students when an error is made and does not proceed until the student keys accurately. All timings are checked for errors and speed. Some timings have time limits, but many are open-ended, allowing lesser-skilled students to enjoy the satisfaction of completing a timing.
