| Description:
While Flash
Typing may look like a simple game, it's actually a powerful new
teaching tool that makes use of three senses - sight, touch, and sound.
Its initial focus is on speed and capturing ideas rather than on
accuracy because when students reach speeds of approximately 18
words-per-minute, mistakes began to decrease on their own. Here's how
the Flash Typing game works. You're in a spaceship flying through an
asteroid field of letters, and the letters will hit your windshield
unless you vaporize them with your laser cannon by striking the correct
key. If a letter makes it through and hits the windshield, cracks will
appear. Too many cracks and the windshield will blow out. (For those who
aren't interested in the sounds and space effects, those special
features can be toggled off.) This is a highly successful,
research-based approach to typing instruction. Our program is actually
teaching students to touch-type 30 words-per-minute in 15 hours while
'playing' the game. They don't even realize they're practicing. |
