5th Grade Keyboarding Exit Assessment
Teacher Information

During the last term of 5th grade, give at least two 1-minute assessment timings using any of the 95% hfw timed writings below.

Circle errors and calculate words-a-minute (wam) rate.  Record the best assessment timing for each student based on no more than three (3) errors per minute and speed.  If necessary, calculate a student’s speed at the third error in the timing.

Also determine a technique rating for each student based on the following criteria:

MASTERY
The student knows the keys and keys by touch.
NEAR MASTERY
The student will key by touch with more practice.
PARTIAL MASTERY
The student looks at the keys most of the time.
MINIMAL MASTERY
The student depends on looking at the keys.
